For a look at Brazil’s rich folkloric dances, book a ticket to an evening performance of Ginga Tropical. Some 16 different dance styles are represented, including a somewhat spooky Orixás performance, lightning-fast frevo, and a stunning acrobatically inclined capoeira group. Other highlights: twirling Amazonian carimbó, sultry Northeastern forró, and a wild and very rarely performed boleadeira from Rio Grande do Sul.
Shows take place in the old dance hall Estudantina. Ticket prices are high, but there’s quite a lot of talent on stage, and few places in Brazil where you can see all of these dances at once.
