We began our day at the hotel Village Kyoto. We were happily surprised to be met in the lobby by Narita-san who joined us for the day from Tobishima. Our first stop was at Nijo-jo castle from the Edo period and seen in the movie Shogun. We were able to enjoy a tea ceremony at the Nijo-jo castle. Then we walked to the Kyoto Imperial Palace.

At Kinkakuji, the golden pavilion we met new friends from a school in Tokyo. We also tossed coins for good luck at the golden pavilion. The Yasaka Shrine is the next. The Kiyomizu-dera is an amazing temple way up above the Gion District of Kyoto with beautiful view of Kyoto below.

We met with this shopkeeper who last year rescued one of the student backpacks that was left in front of her store. We ended the day with dinner in a sushi bar in the Gion District before heading back to our hotel. Our special thank you to Narita-san for coming from Tobishima Village to spend the day with us.
