One of the most important elements of the International Studies Program is the time that our students spend at school with students in Tobishima. This year was very exciting because this was the first group to attend the new combined elimentary/middle school which opened earlier this year. Here are some more photographs taken at school.

On Monday June 14, the flight arrived about an hour late because of a late departure, leaving everyone very tired. Because their flight returned across the International Dateline, they arrived home earlier than they left Japan, giving them a second Monday this week. The group was welcomed home at City Hall by friends and family. Everyone seemed to enjoy the trip and some are ready to go back to Japan.

Today we went to the beautiful new Tobishima Gauken Elementary/Junior High School that opened earlier this year. As we entered the welcome sign greeted us. It was exciting to meet the students and take photos. In science class students were building solar powered vehicles. Everyone had the opportunity to help in the English class.

It was fun to experience a typical Japanese school lunch. And time for another group picture with students. All the student are proud of their new school and have the responsibility to keep the school clean.

After checking out of our hotel, we traveled by high-speed train from Kyoto to Nagoya Station then by local train to Tobishima Village. From the station we went by bus for a warm welcome at City Hall by Mayor Kuno, city staff, and host families.
